Privacy Policy

Effective date: June 16, 2026 Last updated: June 16, 2026

1. Who we are

Piefold ("Piefold," "we," "us," or "our") is a web application for logging visits to New York City pizzerias, recording the items you order, and scoring them. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.

If you have questions, contact us at privacy@piefold.pizza.

The service is operated by SOHUM.media.

2. Information we collect

2.1 Information you give us

Account information. When you create an account, we collect your name, email address, and a password. Your password is never stored in readable form — it is stored as a one-way cryptographic hash.

Content you create. Piefold is built around content you choose to enter:

  • Visits — the pizzeria you visited, the date, and any notes.
  • Items — the names of slices or pies you ordered and, optionally, the price you paid.
  • Reviews — your scores for crust, sauce, cheese, and value (1–10), and any written review text.

Communications. If you email us or contact support, we keep that correspondence.

2.2 Information collected automatically

Essential cookies and session data. We use a small number of strictly necessary cookies to keep you logged in and to protect against cross-site request forgery. See our Cookie Policy for details.

Basic technical data. Like most websites, our hosting provider may log standard request information such as IP address, browser type, and timestamps for security and operational purposes.

2.3 Information we do not collect

  • We do not process payments and do not collect or store any payment card information.
  • We do not currently use third-party advertising or behavioral-tracking cookies.
  • We do not sell your personal information.

3. Public vs. private content

This is central to how Piefold works, so please read carefully:

  • Visits are private by default. When you log a visit, only you can see it.
  • You may mark a visit public. When you toggle a visit to public, that visit — along with its items and reviews — becomes visible to other users and contributes to a pizzeria's aggregate scores. Your display name may appear alongside public content.
  • Aggregate scores shown for each pizzeria are derived only from content that users have chosen to make public.

You can change a visit back to private at any time. Once a visit is private again, it stops contributing to public aggregates going forward.

4. How we use your information

We use your information to:

  • Create and maintain your account and authenticate you;
  • Store and display the visits, items, and reviews you create;
  • Calculate aggregate pizzeria scores from public content;
  • Keep the service secure and prevent abuse;
  • Respond to your support requests;
  • Comply with legal obligations.

We rely on the following legal bases where applicable (e.g., for users in the EEA/UK): performing our contract with you (providing the service), our legitimate interests (security, improving the service), your consent (where required), and legal obligations.

5. How we share information

We share information only in these limited circumstances:

  • Service providers / hosting. Piefold is hosted on infrastructure provided by Render and uses a PostgreSQL database. These providers process data on our behalf to run the service.
  • Public content. Content you mark public is visible to other users and visitors, as described in Section 3.
  • Legal requirements. We may disclose information if required by law, subpoena, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of Piefold, our users, or the public.
  • Business transfers. If Piefold is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction.

We do not sell or rent your personal information to third parties.

6. Data retention

We keep your account and content for as long as your account is active. If you delete a visit, item, or review, it is removed from the service. If you delete your account, we delete or anonymize your personal information within a reasonable period, except where we must retain it to comply with legal obligations or resolve disputes. Backups may persist for a limited time before being overwritten.

7. Your rights and choices

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:

  • Access the personal information we hold about you;
  • Correct inaccurate information;
  • Delete your account and associated personal data;
  • Object to or restrict certain processing;
  • Request a portable copy of your data;
  • Withdraw consent where processing is based on consent.

To exercise any of these rights, email privacy@piefold.pizza. We will respond within the timeframe required by applicable law. You can also access and edit much of your information directly in your account.

California residents: Under the CCPA/CPRA you have rights to know, delete, correct, and opt out of "sale" or "sharing" of personal information. We do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined under California law.

EEA/UK residents: You have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

8. Security

We take reasonable measures to protect your information, including hashing passwords, serving the site over HTTPS, and restricting administrative access. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

9. Children's privacy

Piefold is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.

10. International users

Piefold is operated from the United States and your information will be processed there. If you access the service from outside the U.S., you understand your information may be transferred to and stored in the U.S., where data protection laws may differ from those in your country.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date above and, for material changes, provide additional notice (such as an in-app notice or email). Continued use of Piefold after changes take effect means you accept the revised policy.
